What are my options for using a paving sealant on natural stone?

Paving sealants help to create a barrier on the surface of the stone, preventing liquids, oils, and other substances from penetrating and causing stains. It also helps to ward off water damage, which is especially important for outdoor applications or high traffic areas. You can have your stone pre-sealed by us, so the paving sealant is applied before installation, or you can choose to seal the stone yourself using one of the products we sell.

What are the benefits of using the Kebur pre-seal service?

Using a paving sealant on your stone before you install it means you don’t have to wait on dry weather until you can seal it. And whilst we would always encourage working as clean as possible, using paving sealant also means that any mortar spillages can be cleaned off quite easily. This isn’t the case if the stone isn’t sealed, especially for stones such as limestone, where acid cleaners would damage the stone. Our specialist sealing service takes the hassle away and uses high performance sealants, Stain-Proof Premium Impregnating Sealer and Stain-Proof Colour Enhancing Sealer, giving you a 15 year or 5 year performance warranty respectively.

How does the stone get pre-sealed?

The crates of stone are unwrapped and the slabs are checked for damage or marks, cleaned up if necessary and left in racks to dry. Once dried, the slabs are moved and prepped on the sealing table. A mist coat, followed by two or three heavier coats are then applied at certain periods depending on the type of stone. The slabs are moved back into the drying racks to cure for 24 hours before being packed ready for dispatch.

How do I apply a paving sealant myself?

First it is essential to clean your patio thoroughly to remove any debris or dirt that may have accumulated over the year. This will not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also prevent the growth of mould and mildew during the wet winter months.

Next you need to apply a paving sealant to the surface of your patio which will create a protective barrier against moisture, preventing water from seeping into cracks and causing damage. By sealing your patio, you can extend its lifespan and reduce the need for costly repairs in the future. When sealing yourself, always check a small area first, and always read the label; some sealants can only be applied in certain temperatures.
